During the 2018-2019 school year, Rocky Ridge Music Center has been partnering with the band department at Estes Park High School to provide a series of workshops for jazz band students. Taught by Grant Larson, Program Director for RRMC’s summer Jazz Camp, these sessions have offered intensive work on improvisation, ensemble playing, and jazz theory and history, providing a taste of the kind of training experienced in the summer program. Several of the participants studied with Dr. Larson at last year’s camp, and the workshops have allowed them to continue building on the foundation put down there. This entire group of talented young musicians has shown remarkable progress over the course of just a few months! Thanks to Kaylin Brennan of Estes Park High School for welcoming us into the band room, and to the Bohemian Foundation for generous grant support for this initiative!
