Discover music, nature and mountain living in a program designed to expose younger students (between ages 10 to 14) to the many facets of music. Modeled after our Young Artist Seminar (YAS), this program introduces all levels of musicians to a broad spectrum of educational resources while maintaining a balance between group and private study, performance and supervised recreational activities.

Exposure to a variety of musical experiences
will help each student develop those areas of special interest during the coming years, whether that be orchestral, small ensemble, vocal, piano or solo performance.  Two thirteen day sessions are available and students may attend one or both for greater exposure and advancement.  In addition, advanced students are encouraged to audition for the concerto competition.

For students interested in improving singing and vocal technique, both sessions of JSS include a Voice Program.  Voice minors will receive instruction in appropriate level voice classes and voice majors will have both private lessons and classes.  Students will work on healthy vocal production and mechanics.

For daily mid-afternoon recreation, students have a choice of activities either on-campus or in the nearby town of Estes Park.   Forests and hiking trails surround Rocky Ridge, so a short counselor-led walk in the woods is always an option.  Other offerings may include: horseback riding, go-carting, miniature golfing, crafting, and volleyball/basketball.   After dinner, activities include a performance class and group recreational activities.  The evening concludes with our traditional camp song and a snack before bedtime.

To guide your child through a terrific experience in the mountains, our fantastic counseling staff enriches the program with special individual skills in music, education, recreation and outdoor activities. These adults, some of whom are parents of JSS students, live in the cabin with students and provide leadership and support for all students. They also help the students remember their schedules, responsibilities, and bedtime!  Ten to fifteen staff positions are available each summer. In return for their parental contributions to our program, their child is credited with substantial financial assistance.

If you are nervous about your child being away from home for the first time come explore Estes Park yourself.  Our thirteen-day sessions fit well with family vacation plans. The nearby resort town of Estes Park offers a variety of family recreational activities.   Please contact our office if you would like more information about planning a vacation in Estes Park.
