August 11 - JSS2 Honors Chamber Ensembles Concert
Estes Park, CO (August 10, 2011): Rocky Ridge Music Center cordially invites the public to an informal concert presented by the Junior Student Seminar Honors Chamber Ensembles at the Cultural Arts Council of Estes Park on Thursday, August 11 at 3:30 p.m.
These students were selected by audition and will present a variety of chamber works. These chamber music pieces will also be performed on the students' final solo and chamber recitals at Rocky Ridge Music Center on August 12 and 13 at 3 and 7 p.m. JSS students range in age from 10 to 15, and all Rocky Ridge student recitals are free and open to the public.
The Cultural Arts Council is located at 423 W. Elkhorn Ave. on the west end of downtown Estes Park in the West Park Center. The current gallery exhibit is the Prelude Show for Plein Air of the Rockies.

2011 JSS2 Concerto Competition Winners
2011 JSS2 Concerto Competition Winners
Rocky Ridge Music Center is pleased to announce the outcome of the 2011 Junior Student Seminar 2 Concerto Competition. Five young musicians were selected from among a pool of very talented students ages 10 to 15. Each student performed one movement of their concerto with piano accompaniment before a panel of faculty judges and live audience on Saturday, August 6.

Alexi will play the third movement of Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor with the JSS2 Concerto Orchestra at the Final Concert on Sunday, August 14 at 10:30 AM. Nikloai and Hannah will perform their concerto movements with piano accompaniment on the first JSS2 Student Recital this Friday at 3:00 PM. Carling and Dylan will perform their concerto movements on Saturday, August 13 at 7:00 PM on the last solo and chamber music recital for JSS2. All student performances are free and open to the public.

Concerto Competition Winners 2011
2011 Young Artist Seminar Concerto Competition Winners
Rocky Ridge Music Center is pleased to announce the outcome of the 2011 Young Artist Seminar Concerto Competition. Four winners were selected from among 19 talented competitors. Each student performed their concerto with piano accompaniment before a panel of judges and live audience on Saturday, July 2. Unanimously, the judges voiced their appreciation of the musical potential and promise of each contender. "We are privileged to have such a great group of students this summer, not just for their high level of musical skill and enthusiasm, but they are all such wonderful people - a joy to have in residence in this close-knit community," commented Dr. SoYoung Lee, Director of Rocky Ridge.
Concerto winners are Caroline Kim (cello), Luke Swanger (piano), Elizabeth Kocses (bassoon) and Coreisa Lee (flute).
Elizabeth Kocses is 24 years old from Naples, Florida, and is an 8-year veteran at Rocky Ridge. In 2010 she received her Bachelor of Music at New England Conservatory and studied bassoon with Richard Ranti. Since then Elizabeth has been working on her Master's Degree from McGill University in Montréal, Quebec and studies bassoon with Stéphane Lévesque.
Luke Swanger is 25 years old and is from Oshkosh, Wisconsin where he studied piano with Dr. Eli Kalman at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In August he will begin his Master's Degree in Music at Georgia State University in Atlanta where he will study piano with Dr. Sergio Gallo. Luke has been a Rocky Ridger for 2 years now. Both Elizabeth and Luke will be featured on the July 16th orchestra concert.
Caroline Kim, age 17, has attended Rocky Ridge for 5 years and is a previous Concerto Competition winner. She is from Calgary, Alberta where she a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra and the Academy Programme at Mount Royal Conservatory studying cello with Beth Root Sandvoss. She will attend Juilliard this fall as a freshman.
Coreisa Lee is 16 years old, attending Rocky Ridge for the first time this summer. A junior at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Coreisa is from Birmingham, Alabama and studies flute with Kimberly Scott. Caroline and Coreisa will perform their concertos on the Final Concert for YAS on July 31 at 10:30 AM.
JUDGES
The 2011 Concerto Competition judges were Judith Glyde, Professor of Cello, University of Colorado at Boulder; Alexandra Nguyen, Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano, University of Colorado at Boulder; James Brody, Associate Professor of Oboe and Alexander Technique, University of Colorado at Boulder; and Michelle Stanley, Assistant Professor of Flute, Colorado State University at Fort Collins.

Rocky Ridge Music Center cordially invites the public to the Queen City Jazz Band Benefit Concert on Wednesday, July 6th at 6:00 pm. The event will feature live Dixieland style jazz, barbecue dinner, and beverage. The event’s highlight will be a live auction including items such as dining certificates, hotel and spa stays, and original art from local businesses in Estes Park, Boulder and surrounding areas. Last year’s auction items sold out! Don’t miss out on your chance to bid on these rare items. All proceeds will be used to fund scholarships that will help future students in need of financial assistance attend our summer programs.

Rocky Ridge Summer Chef Named
Chef Kevin Linville Named as Rocky Ridge Head Chef
It is my pleasure to introduce our new Head Chef Kevin Linville. Kevin brings two decades of experience as Executive Chef and is uniquely qualified for work at Rocky Ridge. His previous employers include Camp Timberline in Estes Park and University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.
Kevin holds an Associate of Arts degree in Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts and has been trained by top chefs at the Culinary Institute of America. He is also certified by the San Diego County Food Health and Sanitation Inspector. And as a bonus, his wife is a professional baker!
