Remembering a True Friend

Alexander Nicolaas Gerritsen (1913 - 2009)

The Rocky Ridge Music Center announces with deep sadness the passing of Honorary Trustee Alex (Lex) Gerritsen.  He died peacefully in the loving arms of his family on May 18th, 2009 while listening to the music of Beethoven.

Lex had a deep devotion to the underlying principle of Rocky Ridge, starting almost 50 years ago when he first became acquainted with the founder, Beth Harrod, and her mission.  He often stated how important he believed it was for young persons to have a period of withdrawal from the world to intensify the experience of studying music and contemplating the wonders of the natural world. The incomparable setting of Rocky Ridge, existing as it does veritably at the feet of Longs Peak, was to him the perfect environment.

He attended the concerts routinely while serving on the Board of Trustees, often regaling the audience about the importance of supporting this unique project.  His own support was most generous and continuous throughout the remainder of his life. Click here for a detailed biography of Alex Gerritsen.

We have lost a great friend and will always be grateful for his loving impact in support of the mission of Rocky Ridge.

A remembrance ceremony will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, May 23 at University Place, 1700 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette, IN with reception immediately following.  In line with Lex's wishes, the family requests that no flowers be sent, instead, donations may be given in his honor to:
